Marcus D. Magness is a shareholder of the firm and has practiced law in Fresno since 1990. He obtained a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) in 1987 and his law degree from the University of Oklahoma (Norman, Oklahoma) in 1990. In 1994, Mr. Magness obtained a masters of law in taxation from the University of Miami (Miami, Florida).
Mr. Magness is both a transactional attorney and a litigation attorney, roughly dividing his time equally between the two areas. From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Magness was an associate with Lozano, Smith, Smith, Woliver & Behrens. While at Lozano, Mr. Magness represented school districts throughout the state on environmental, redevelopment, school site acquisition, school construction and bond (general obligation and certificates of participation) issues. He also represented various city and county governments with respect to eminent domain and tax-exempt bond issues.
Since joining the firm in 1994, Mr. Magness has focused his transactional practice in the areas of business entities (formation, acquisition, reorganization, etc.), taxation, estate planning and real estate. With his past experience, Mr. Magness handles environmental litigation for the firm and represents his clients in land use and eminent domain matters. His litigation practice includes probate and trust litigation, securities litigation, business litigation and civil tax controversy at both the local, state and federal levels.
